Schools

There are 162 schools spread over 10 Local Authorities. Our Catholic schools have a total of over 52,000 pupils.
The service assists the Bishop in determining diocesan education policy and supports schools in its implementation. The Education Service also undertakes Section 48 Inspection in diocesan schools.

Professional Development

The Diocesan Education Service provides a range of courses for Governors, senior leaders and teachers. This includes training for current and potential middle and senior managers and on-going professional development for RE subject leaders.
It also administers the nationally recognised Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS) and offers an alternative route in three accredited stages, the Diocesan Certificate in Religious Studies (DCRS).
The Diocesan Education Service works in partnership with Carmel College Graduate Teacher Programme.

Advocacy

A key role of the Education Service is to liaise and consult with the Department for Children, Schools and Families, Local Authorities, Catholic Education Service and other external groups to protect, manage and promote Catholic education throughout the Diocese.
